Dr. Moore Invited to be Main Visiting Speaker and Surgeon at Several Major Events in Argentina
Dr Robert D. Moore was invited to Argentina in October of this year (2010) to be the Main Visiting Speaker and Surgeon at several major events throughout Argentina including Keynote International speaker and Visiting Professor at the Argentina National Congress of Urology and Urology Society of Argentina, which held its Annual Scientific Meeting in Cordoba, Argentina.
Dr Omar Grossi, the President of the Argentina Federation of Urology and Director of the Institute of Urology and Urogynecology of Argentina. The main subject of this year’s meeting was “Minimally Invasive Surgeries in Urology: Present and Future”. Dr Grossi personally invited Dr Moore secondary to Dr Moore’s reputation as being one of the leader’s worldwide in the field of minimally invasive Urogynecology and the fact that Dr Moore helped develop and has led the field in research of today’s current minimally invasive procedures for incontinence and prolapse, including the single incision mini-sling for female urinary incontinence. The meeting is the largest annual Urology Meeting in Argentina and hosts approximately 300 surgeons on an annual basis. Dr Moore gave two Keynote lectures and chaired sessions regarding minimally invasive surgery for prolapse and incontinence during his time at the Congress. Dr Moore was very privileged to share the stage with the one other Keynote International Speaker, Professor Peter Papa Petros from Australia. Dr Petros was the original inventor of the TVT sling (with Ulf Ulmsten from Sweden) as well as the IVS procedure for prolapse and therefore it was an honor for Dr Moore to be considered in his league as he is considered one of the forefathers of modern Urogyn surgery.
Prior to heading to Cordoba for the Congress Dr Moore arrived to Buenes Aires on Thursday October 14th after a 12 hour overnight flight from Atlanta. He headed straight to the Hospital Militar where he was invited to be the Co-chairman and Keynote International Speaker and Surgeon at a course and workshop on Minimally Invasive Pelvic Floor Surgery. Dr Moore was Co-chair with Dr Carlos Sarsotti, considered by most to be Argentina’s leading Urogynecologist and Pelvic Floor Surgeon. It was an honor for Dr Moore to share the podium with someone of Dr Sarsotti’s reputation and caliber. Dr Moore completed several live surgeries that were transmitted back to the auditorium and also gave the keynote lecture at the meeting. Dr Moore then attended a fabulous steak dinner given in his honor in Buenes Aires and was ready for some sleep Thursday night prior to an early morning flight to the Congress on Friday (details above).
On Saturday, the day following the Congress, Dr Moore was then invited by the Departments of Urogynecology and Urology at the Clinica de Sucre in Cordoba to perform live surgery for a Surgical Workshop and Course that featured Dr Moore as the Main Speaker and Surgeon. He performed three live surgeries that were transmitted from the operating theatre to the lecture hall and also gave lectures to the Hospital’s surgeons, Fellow’s, Residents and Students. Prior to flying back to Buenes Aires on Sunday for his trip home, the department hosted a “traditional” Brazilian barbeque at the department chair’s home with Dr Moore being the Guest of Honor! The food was amazing as was the hospitality that all the doctors and staff showed Dr Moore during his stay in Argentina!
It was a very busy 3 days in Argentina, flying in on Thursday, teaching and operating in Buenes Aires on Thursday afternoon and evening, flying to Cordoba on Friday morning (a beautiful historic city at the base of the mountains in central/northern Argentina just to East of Chile, now Argentina’s second largest city) to be the Keynote International Speaker at the major Urology Congress on Friday, operating and lecturing on Saturday at Clinica de Sucre and then flying back to Atlanta on Sunday. It was however, a pleasure and honor, to be invited by the Argentinians to be their guest in their beautiful country!
