Drs. Miklos and Moore completed live telesurgery today at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA on two women that was broadcast LIVE on the internet throughout the world. They were asked by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) and their sister organization, SurgeryU, to host the first ever live surgical event for the new monthly series that will feature top surgeons from all over the world.

Drs. Moore and Miklos were asked to host the first and inaugural event for the organizations secondary to their reputations as being two of the best laparoscopic and vaginal surgeons in the world. They are known for their pioneering work and skills in both laparoscopic and vaginal reconstructive surgery and travel the world on a regular basis teaching, lecturing and operating.

The first patient underwent a laparoscopic mesh sacral colpopexy with paravaginal repair (for vaginal vault prolapse and cystocele) and the second underwent a vaginal repair with mesh with the new Elevate procedure and Mini–sling for a combined cystocele and stress urinary incontinence. They broadcast live for 2 hours and they completed both surgeries in this time. Many of the viewers were amazed at the skills demonstrated and the efficiency and speed of the surgeries. Dr Miklos and Moore lectured and taught throughout the surgeries for the audience. They also answered questions that came in over the internet in real time and had questions and comments from surgeons all over the world, including France, Germany, Russia, Australia and others.

Assa StepanianThe following is a quote from Dr Assia Stepanian, the editor–in–chief of Surgery U explaining why they were chosen to host this important inaugural event:Dr. Miklos and Dr. Moore have some of the highest levels of expertise in pelvic reconstructive surgery in the USA and in the world. They are the authors of the largest study in the world on Laparoscopic Sacral Colpopexy, in which the top (apex) of the vagina is supported. This study concentrated on mesh–related complications in women with or without hysterectomies performed at the time of surgeries. The number of complications that have occurred during the surgeries by Dr. Miklos and Dr. Moore was minimal. In view of the movement toward the laparoscopic performance of surgeries, it is imperative to learn from surgeons with such excellent record.”

The transmission went very well, the pictures were crisp and showed the minute detail of the operative field, and the audio was clear. Both of you certainly are master surgeons, and I just want to thank you for your willingness to take time from your busy schedules to share your expert's knowledge and surgical skill with your colleagues worldwide.
