Dr. Miklos and Dr. Moore Welcome Doctors from Australia

World-renowned vaginal rejuvenation surgeons, Dr. John R Miklos and Dr. Robert D. Moore are respected within their trade as being pioneers in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical techniques. They recognize that their techniques, which historically have high success rates, are innovative with patient care being their main concern. Drs. Miklos and Moore have traveled the world lecturing and surgically teaching other doctors in the fields of urology, cosmetic gynecology and urogynecology. This past summer, Dr. Miklos and Dr. Moore welcomed two different doctors from Australia who were elected to come to the United States to train with the best.

Dr. Nick Bedford, MbChB, FRANZCOG of Adelaide, South Australia (though originally from Wellington, New Zealand) came to Atlanta in July after winning a Travelling Fellowship sponsored by Covidien and the Australasian Gynaecology Endoscopy and Surgery Society (AGES). He won the AGES Travelling Fellow Scholarship and travelled to Portugal for the IUGA meeting where he presented research on Laparoscopic Paravaginal Repairs, then flew to Atlanta to spend a week observing and learning from Dr. Miklos and Moore. Dr. Bedford then traveled on to the Cleveland Clinic to finish his training. Dr. Bedford could have picked any center in the United States to travel to and learn from, however, he chose to training with Dr. Miklos and Dr. Moore at the Atlanta Center for Laparoscopic Urogynecology secondary to their worldwide reputation.

In August, Dr. Miklos and Dr. Moore had another fellow observe them in their operating room (or theatre as they say in Australia). Dr. Kurinji Kannan of Sydney, Australia received the UGSA - AMS Traveling Scholarship for 2011. This scholarship is awarded annually to fellows of the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists by The UroGynaecological Society of Australasia (UGSA) in partnership with American Medical Systems (AMS). The award included a fully funded trip to the United States to attend the “International Academy of Pelvic Surgery (IAPS) - Annual Fellows Program” in Cincinnati, and two major vaginal surgery centres within the U.S. Just like Dr. Bedford, Dr. Kannan chose to observe Dr. Miklos and Dr. Moore while training her in the states.

Here is what Dr. Kannan had to say about her experience in Atlanta and with Dr. Miklos and Dr. Moore:

We arrived to a warm welcome of both Dr. John Miklos and Dr. Robert Moore and wasted very little time before their team swung into action. What unfolded over the next couple of days was a spectacle of very well organized and efficiently run system of four surgical theatres where in the surgeons seamlessly moved across to maximize the use of surgeon time.”
